In a rural Icelandic village in the 1980s, married couple Grimur and Harpa manage to build a small fishing empire along with their friends. These are colorful and prosperous times for anyone associated with the village. But the introduction of a fishing quota system soon limits the fishing rights from the public domain to a few selected ships’ captains. Money and power struggles not only corrupt the community, but also cause the death of Grimur, leaving Harpa as the sole owner of the company and a financial pillar in the village community.
